The Green Canopy: The Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Everyone across the UK was invited to plant trees from October 2021, when the tree planting season began through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022. To increase and protect the native tree cover the people were being urged to create this 'special gift' for the Queen, to mark her 70 years on the throne.

Harrowdene Gardens, Teddington Grange applied under the Community Group for one of our newly planted trees to be included in the Green Canopy and was accepted. The Cherry Blossom Tree is located in Courtyard 5

Richmond Borough in Bloom Competition: Our Estate won a Silver Gilt Certificate in the Richmond Borough in Bloom competition in 2019. This was an improvement on our Silver award the previous year. The 2019 Certificate was presented at the Awards Presentations Evening 1st October 2019 to the two Teddington Grange Directors who specifically deal with the gardens.

Tree News

In recent years we have lost several trees due to their poor condition or where they were causing damage to adjacent structures. We have planted the following replacement trees.

At the back of Block 1 we lost a fine old willow tree due to decay. The stump is fighting back and we will keep it as a coppiced feature.

Persian Ironwood (Parrotia persica)

The large lime tree in Courtyard 1 was felled because it was causing damage to the garages.

Crab Apple (Malus 'Van Eseltine')

At the back of Courtyard 2 this crab apple fills the gap left by the felling of the large silver maple in the Shaef Way garden.

Crab Apple (Malus "John Downie")

Three weeping pear in Courtyard 4 had reached the end of their useful life and were replaced with two of the following:

June Berry (Amelanchier Lamarckii)

A cherry tree was felled in Courtyard 5 because it was damaging the garden wall. This dogwood was planted in the bed outside the courtyard.

Dogwood (Cornus var. Chinensis)
